António Guerra, researcher at CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and paediatrician at the University Hospital Centre of São João , will receive the Career Award from the Portuguese Society of Paediatrics (SPP).

The award ceremony will take place on November 15th, starting at 2:00 pm, at the Estoril Congress Centre, where this year’s edition of the National Paediatrics Congress will take place.

“I was surprised. I have never done anything special besides dedicating four decades of my life to Pediatrics. My contribution is only a small drop, although many small drops mean a lot”, he reacts.

With 44 years of service, he makes a very positive assessment of his professional career. “Dealing with children is always rewarding. I’ve opted for an area of medical knowledge that is fundamental and that has evolved a lot in these decades,” he adds.

Children continue to be his priority and the fact that he’s close to retirement doesn’t mean that he’ll completely disconnect from his activity. “I will continue to collaborate with colleagues and support colleagues in research and doctoral projects,” he promises.

According to the Portuguese Society of Pediatrics (SPP in Portuguese), “the SPP Career Award is intended to distinguish paediatricians who are members of society as a recognition of the high merit of their activities in clinical practice, in education and training, in research, or in any combination thereof in the area of paediatrics”.
