Altamiro Costa Pereira (coordinator) and Pedro Rodrigues (principal investigator of the third thematic line) of CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research are two of the guest speakers invited by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) to integrate the workshop on the “Health Agenda”. The event takes place on May 15, in Lisbon.

The workshop integrates a number of initiatives subordinated to several Thematic Agendas for Research & Innovation, created by the FCT in 2017, aiming “to mobilize the different national stakeholders and contribute to finding answers for different societal challenges based on scientific knowledge.”

In Portugal, Health is a strategic sector for social and economic development, and the value chain is in rapid growth, generating, year after year, more knowledge, innovation and value. The coordinators of this agenda, including Altamiro da Costa Pereira, point out that “R&D investment in Portugal has grown by 12.5% per year and doctorates grow at an annual rate of 10%. The number of publications and patents follow this trend, with annual growth rates of 12.2% and 17.3%, respectively.”

“The preliminary version of the Research and Innovation Agenda (R&I) in the area of Health, Clinical and Translational Research will be presented and discussed in this workshop. The Agenda is currently being developed by a group of experts appointed by R&D institutions, enterprises and other entities, with the objective of elaborating a vision for this thematic area in a medium and long term perspective (until 2030)”, explains and FCT source.

Among these experts there are three important names of CINTESIS: Altamiro da Costa Pereira (member of the coordinating team of the Agenda), Pedro Rodrigues and Luís Azevedo, experts in Intelligent Data Analysis in Health and Evidence-based Medicine, respectively.

However, according to the FCT, “the workshop will not be only a moment of dissemination of the ongoing work, but also an opportunity to receive the additional contributions that may consolidate the final version of the Agenda”, which is why the organization calls for the participation of all the stakeholders in the Health area.

The workshop will be held from 14:30 to 17:00 p.m., at the Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian (Av. De Berna 45A, Lisboa). Register here. Final Program to be announced.
