Paulo Santos, a researcher from CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and a professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), is the new president of the College of General and Family Medicine of the Portuguese Order of Doctors.

The specialist was elected for the 2021-23 office and he takes over the position from Isabel Pereira dos Santos, with whom he worked as a member of the previous board.

The CINTESIS researcher heads “a renewed team”, but with “the same spirit”, aiming at “reinforcing the role of family doctors in their mission to provide everyone with better health”.

For the new term, Paulo Santos has a stake in proximity, professionalism, participation, and proactivity. The objective is “to place General and Family Medicine not only at the center of the health system but in the leadership, for more and better health for all in Portugal”.

Paulo Santos graduated and earned his Ph.D. from FMUP, is an assistant professor of the same faculty, a researcher at CINTESIS and a family doctor specialized in Geriatrics. He is also a member of the Disciplinary Council of the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Doctors and of the Ethics Committee of the Northern Regional Health Administration.

Paulo Santos has authored many scientific articles in his main research areas and is currently the coordinator of METIS, a project developed in the frameworks of FMUP to promote health literacy and access to health information for all.
