Expresso interviewed Carlos Martins, a family doctor, a researcher at CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).

At stake are the measures recently announced by the Government to fight COVID-19. Carlos Martins says that “it is necessary to stop and look at the nature of the virus that we want to fight, at a time when measures to mitigate contagion but also support measures for the health system are lacking”.

Also according to Expresso, “tracking contacts and following mild cases of the disease, in the expert’s opinion, should become a function of civil protection or of voluntary citizens at home, accredited”. The goal, he says, is to leave family doctors free to “care for the sick.”
