Almost half (43%) of a sample of two thousand children surveyed in a study on skin protection habits in Porto got a sunburn on the beach last year. Of these, 54% were sunburnt more than once. This is an aggravated risk factor for developing skin cancer. The study was developed by Filipa Duarte, a researcher at CINTESIS, within the scope of her doctoral thesis, which she defended recently at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).
