João Bernardes is the Principal Investigator of the research group Charter of CINTESIS.

He graduated and later earned his Doctoral Degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), where he is a Full Professor of Genecology e Obstetrics since 2005.

João Bernardes works as an Assistant Senior Graduate Doctor at the Hospital Centre of S. João and is the Director of the Department of Women, Children and Youngsters of the Pedro Hispano Hospital /Local Health Unit of Matosinhos. He is also involved with other important organizations, such as the Regional Commission for Women’s, Children’s and Youngsters’ Health of the Regional Health Administration of the North (ARS-North), or the Disciplinary Board of the North Regional Council of the Order of Doctors (OM, in Portuguese).

He was founder and Director of the Biomedical Simulation Centre of FMUP, vice-president of the Portuguese Society of Medical Education and secretary of the Portuguese Society of Biomedical Engineering. He was the leader researcher of several projects of the National Board for Scientific and Technical Research and of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, which gave way to the prototype and market model of the system for cardiotocograms’ analysis SisPorto.

He acts as a reviewer and is a member of the Editorial Council of several scientific journals, having authored and co-authored about 200 scientific articles in indexed journals.
