José Vilelas is an integrated member of the research group NursID at CINTESIS.

She graduated in Nursing from the Nursing School of São João de Deus in Évora in 1989. She then completed her degree in Business Organization and Management at the Universidade Moderna in 1995. In 2000, she completed the Higher Education Program in Child Health and Pediatric Nursing, which earned her the degree of Nursing and Specialist from the School of Nursing of S. Vicente Paulo.

In 2007, she completed her Master in School Health at the Faculty of Medicine of the Univerisity of Lisbon and in 2008 her PhD in the area of Psychological Intervention in Education at the Institute Miguel Torga in Coimbra, in partnership with the University of Extremadura in Badajoz, Spain.

Since 2011, she works as coordinating professor at the Portuguese Red Cross Higher School of Health (ESSCVP).
