Maria José Peixoto is an integrated researcher of the NursID group, Thematic Line 1 – Preventive Medicine & Societal Challenges of CINTESIS.

She earned her Doctoral Degree in Nursing from the Catholic University of Portugal with the thesis “Promover o Bem-Estar do Familiar Cuidador – Programa de Intervenção Estruturado” (Promoting the well-being of the family carer – Structured Intervention Programme); and completed her Master Degree in Public Health at the University of Coimbra. Previously, she had graduated in Nursing at the Nursing School of Santa Maria and had specialised in Public Health Nursing at the Nursing School of Porto (ESEP).

She began her professional practice as nurse at the Hospital of Santo Antonio and in 1991, she joined the teaching staff of the Nursing School of S. João.

Her fields of interests are Osteoporosis, Home visit, Professional diseases, and Family resilience. She has authored several articles of specialised journals and has published 4 book chapters and 1 book. She has also participated in six research projects, acting as the coordinator of two of them.

Currently, she is a Coordinating Professor at the Nursing School of Porto (ESEP).
