Miguel Areia is a member of the research group iGO – Thematic Line 2 – Clinical and Translational Research.
He graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, earned his Master Degree from the same institution, and completed his doctoral studies in Clinical Research and Health Services at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, with a thesis entitled “Research on the cost-effectiveness of upper digestive endoscopy for the diagnostic of early gastric cancer”.
He began his clinical practice at the Hospitals of the University of Coimbra, where he specialized in Gastroenterology.
Miguel Areia has authored more than thirty scientific articles and is a member of several national and international scientific associations.
Currently, he works as a Gastroenterologist at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra, leading the Research Coordination Department.
