Project Description

Hygeia

The Hygeia project is a health promotion action under the responsibility of CINTESIS and the Department of Community Medicine, Health Information and Decision (MEDCIDS) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) that aims at improving the knowledge of the population of the Porto about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, namely with regard to Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection. The project is addressed towards highschool students and it will be developed in their school environment during school hours, trying to correct myths and false beliefs and to promote the safety in sexual relationships.

The project benefits from the financial support of Giléad-Ginese, in the amount of 23 thousand euros. Near 50% of this budget is directly managed by CINTESIS.

Abstract

The Hygeia project is a health promotion action under the responsibility of the General and Family Medicine Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, which aims to improve the knowledge and skills of young population of Porto in the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, namely with regards to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection. The project is addressed towards highschool students and it will be developed in their school environment during school hours, trying to correct myths and false beliefs and to promote the safety in sexual relationships.
