About PrimeCare

The research group PrimeCare – Primary Health Care Research, is constituted by researchers strongly involved in care delivery to patients who are at different levels within the Portuguese Healthcare System. This allows them to benefit from a network of partnerships with many healthcare entities, and to constantly encounter real-world problems that can be solved through research.

Centred in five levels of prevention – primary (dedicated to avoiding the disease, lowering its incidence), secondary (aiming to contain the prevalence), tertiary (i.e. after the disease is established, aiming to improve the remaining capacity, acting over treatment and rehabilitation), quaternary (focusing on the prevention of overmedicalization of population, both in terms of overdiagnosis, and overtreatment), and primordial prevention (aiming to approach the underlying conditions leading to causation of diseases and quaternary prevention). PrimeCare aims to contribute to the strengthening of Primary Care by implementing a structured, rigorous and methodologically strong research.
