“A study released last year by CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research involving 251 doctors (being that around 40 thousand doctors are registered at the Portuguese Order of Doctors) – showed that more than half (55%) agreed with the euthanasia at the request of a patient with incurable or terminal illness and unbearable suffering. But the question of how many doctors or nurses would be willing, at the last moment, to give medicines in lethal doses to the patients is left with no answer.” The information is stated in the article by the newspaper Sol.

The scientific study reported by the journal was conducted by researchers from CINTESIS and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). The conclusions gain relevance at a time when the country is discussing the possible legalization of euthanasia.
