About SPA

The research group SPA – Signal Processing Applications studies the biomedical signal processing. Specifically, the group addresses the development of methodologies for heart rate and other physiological signals monitoring. The group is also committed to spatio-temporal analysis, using different data sources (for example, time series of health events, remote-sensing observations) and methodologies (for example, spatial statistics, geographic information systems).

The main objectives of this group are to develop methodologies for signal processing / analysis based on the use of traditional and emerging technologies; contribute to the understanding and knowledge of health-related individual and environmental factors; produce knowledge for preventive health and contribute to the improvement of personalized diagnosis and treatment.
