TVI listened to Cristina Costa Santos, a researcher at CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), regarding the work that calls into question the quality of the epidemiological surveillance data of COVID-19 in Portugal.

The first author of this study speaks of several inconsistencies and evident flaws in the data made available by the authorities to the scientific community, after several requests in this regard. The results can be read on an open-access platform. Among the erroneous data that most call attention are, for example, cases diagnosed before the first case of infection with the new coronavirus in our country.

The CINTESIS/FMUP team that has authored this investigation is again available to collaborate with the Directorate-General for Health, with a view to improving the data.
