A segunda edição da Escola de Verão 2018 vai realizar-se já entre os dias 3 e 21 de setembro, incluindo três cursos distintos (Introdução à Gestão de Cuidados de Saúde Baseada em Valor, História do Instrumento Cirúrgico e Introdução à Análise de Dados Biomédicos usando o R), numa organização do MEDCIDS – Departamento de Medicina da Comunidade, Informação e Decisão em Saúde da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, com apoio do CINTESIS – Centro de Investigação em Tecnologias e Serviços de Saúde.
O primeiro a realizar-se será o Curso de Introdução à Gestão de Cuidados de Saúde Baseada em Valor, entre os dias 3 e 4 de setembro, das 16h às 20h, tendo como responsáveis Francisco Nuno Rocha Gonçalves e Filipe Pereira da Costa. As candidaturas abriram no dia 14 de junho e prolongam-se até 30 de julho, podendo ser efetuadas aqui. Destinada a candidatos com o 1.º ciclo do ensino superior completo, os objetivos são “familiarizar o aluno com os conceitos e problemas implicados em Gestão de Valor em Cuidados de Saúde, discutir formas práticas de operacionalizar os conceitos essenciais de Gestão de Valor em Saúde e ainda discutir o papel da medição de outcomes, das TIC, do financiamento e das competências de contratação em Saúde”.
Com 15 vagas em aberto e creditação com 1,5 ECTS, o Curso de História do Instrumento Cirúrgico irá decorrer entre 11 e 12 de setembro (9h-13h e 14h-18h). As candidaturas podem ser feitas entre 25 de junho e 25 de julho. O público-alvo é constituído essencialmente por estudantes com frequência universitária no 1.º ciclo de estudo na área das Ciências da Saúde ou com interesse nesta área. Coordenado por Amélia Ferraz, o curso pretende dar a conhecer a História da Medicina, despertando “um interesse contínuo por esta temática” e servindo de “suporte em quaisquer investigações interdisciplinares”. Outros objetivos passam por “sensibilizar para a Museologia na Medicina e para a história do instrumento médico, divulgar o património da FMUP e capacitar para a sua salvaguarda e a sua aplicação pedagógica e científica, motivar para os valores da cultura através da autoformação e estimular a reflexão sobre a Medicina”.
Entre os dias 17 e 21 de setembro, irá realizar-se o Curso de Introdução à Análise de Dados Biomédicos usando o R, tendo como docente e responsável Pedro Pereira Rodrigues. Destinado a profissionais, investigadores ou estudantes nas áreas da Saúde, Ciências da Informação, Matemática e Estatística, o curso terá as candidaturas abertas entre 25 de junho e 25 de julho. O objetivo é “dotar os estudantes de competências básicas em ciência de dados de saúde, na sua componente de análise exploratória e inferencial de dados biomédicos, incluindo aprender a aplicar as diferentes técnicas básicas de estatísticas a dados biomédicos usando base de dados reais e o software de análise de dados R”. De acordo com a organização, este curso visa “formar profissionais e investigadores na área de ciências de dados de saúde, uma área onde existe cada vez mais financiamento, quer público e institucional (nacional e internacional), quer da própria sociedade, onde empresas do setor estão deficitárias e disponíveis para acolher estes investigadores, uma vez que lhes atribuem um alto valor social e económico para as suas atividades de negócio”. São também desígnios deste Curso, creditado com 3 ECTS e com um total de 20 vagas, “diversificar e melhorar a qualidade da oferta formativa da Universidade do Porto, ocupando um lugar de destaque na oferta de formação contínua na área, e dar complemento à formação existente com outras ferramentas de análise (designadamente com SPSS)”.

The second edition of the Summer School 2018 will take place from September 3 to 21. Three different courses (Introduction to Value-Based Healthcare Management, History of the Surgical Armamentarium and Introduction to Biomedical Data Analysis using R) are offered under the organization of MEDCIDS – Department of Community Medicine, Health Information and Decision of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, sponsored by CINTESIS – Center of Health Technology Services Research.
The first course to take place will be Introduction to Value-Based Healthcare Management, on September 3 to 7, from 16h to 20h, under the responsibility of Francisco Nuno Rocha Gonçalves and Filipe Pereira da Costa. Applications will open on June 14 and will extend until July 13 at the following link. This course is addressed to those who have already completed a first cycle degree of higher education, and it aims at “getting the student acquainted with the concepts and problems involved in value management in health care, at discussing practical ways of operationalizing key concepts of value management in health, and discussing the role of outcomes measurement, ICT, financing, and procurement skills in Health.
With 15 open positions and 1.5 ECTS credits, the History of the Surgical Armamentarium course will take place on September 11 and 12 (9h-13h and 14h-18h). Those interested can applied from June 25 to July 25. The target audience consists essentially of students with first cycle university degrees in the field of Health Sciences or from other areas who are interested in this field. The course is coordinated by Amélia Ferraz and it aims to raise awareness of the History of Medicine, awakening “a continuous interest in this subject” and serving as “support in any interdisciplinary research”. Other purposes are: raising awareness towards museology in Medicine and the history of the medical armamentarium; disseminating the heritage of FMUP and enabling the students to its safeguard and pedagogical and scientific application; motivating the students about the values of culture through self-education; and stimulating reflection on medicine.”
On September 17 to 21 the course Introduction to Biomedical Data Analysis using R will take place, under the responsibility of professor Pedro Pereira Rodrigues. The course is addressed to professionals, researchers or students from the Health Area, Information Science, Mathematics and Statistics. Applications will be open from June 25 to July 25. The objective is “to provide the students with Health Data Science basic skills regarding exploratory and inferential analysis of biomedical data, which includes learning to apply the different basic statistics techniques to biomedical data using real databases and the data analysis software R”. According to the organization, this course aims to “train professionals and researchers in Health Data Science, an area where there is increasing funding available, both public and institutional (national and international) and from society itself, where there is a deficit of companies in this industry. At the same time, the existing companies are open to welcoming these researchers since they give a high social and economic value to their business activities”. This course credited with 3 ECTS and a total of 20 open positions, also aims “to diversify and improve the quality of the training offered at the University of Porto, occupying a prominent place in the offer of continuous training in this area, and to complement the training with other analysis tools (namely with SPSS)”.
