It was already known that the computerization of obstetrical clinical records has a positive impact in supporting clinical practice since it supports health professionals in the context of consultations, hospitalizations, births, surgeries and emergencies. Now, electronic recordings have been shown to contribute to the improvement of the scientific output of each hospital and, therefore, of national scientific research.
As a study by CINTESIS researchers shows, hospitals using ObsCare system have published 46% more than hospitals that do not yet have this software. In addition to publishing more, hospitals with computerized obstetrical data have studies with significantly larger samples. In the studies of hospitals with computerized records, the average sample size was 1,246 women, while in the other hospitals the average did not exceed 336 women.
These data were presented in April at the Spring Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Obstetrics and Maternal-fetal Medicine, where several works that used data from ObsCare were awarded.
The work is authored by Priscila Maranhão, Tiago Costa, Nuno Montenegro and Ricardo Cruz Correia, researchers at CINTESIS, VirtualCare and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto / Hospital Center of São João, one of the hospitals where the software has already been implemented.
ObsCare was developed by VirtualCare, a spin-off of the University of Porto born in CINTESIS. The Regional Health Administration of the North has already acquired the license for its use in all public hospitals.
