João Tavares is an integrated member of the research group AgeingC at CINTESIS.
He graduated in Nursing, in 2004, from the Nursing School Dr. Ângelo Fonseca, earned his Master in Gerontology from the University of Aveiro in 2008 and completed his Doctorate in Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Porto/University of Aveiro in 2014.
His curriculum includes the nursing practice at the Emergency Service of the University of Coimbra Hospitals (HUC) and at the UCSP – Alfarelos Unit, as well as teaching as a guest assistant at the Nursing School of Coimbra and at the School of Higher Education of Coimbra. He is currently associate professor at the School of Health of the University of Aveiro (ESSUA).
João Tavares has published several papers in national and international peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is also co-author of books dedicated to the caregiver and care of the elderly, reviewer of scientific journals such as Geriatric Nursing, and member of the AGE Platform Europe in the Task Force on dignified Ageing and AGE on Heath Ageing.
In 2018 he received the Research Award from the Order of Nurses – Regional Section of the Center.
