Já estão abertas as inscrições para o 11.º Simpósio de Metabolismo da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (FMUP). Marcado para dia 30 de outubro, no Centro de Investigação Médica da FMUP, o evento conta com o apoio do CINTESIS.
Numa época em que a esperança média de vida é particularmente elevada, a sociedade debate-se com a manutenção da saúde dos mais idosos. Neste âmbito, a comissão de organização do Simpósio decidiu dedicar a edição deste ano ao tema “Ageing & Metabolism”.
Elisa Keating, presidente da Comissão Científica do Simpósio e investigadora do CINTESIS, explica que os objetivos da edição de 2019 passam por “promover ativamente o progresso na contenção de doenças relacionadas com a idade e na identificação de abordagens terapêuticas para o objetivo final do envelhecimento saudável, através da compreensão e discussão dos mecanismos do envelhecimento, das respetivas consequências moleculares e da interseção com o metabolismo, da célula ao organismo como um todo”.
Entre os temas que serão abordados por um proeminente painel de investigadores nacionais e internacionais, destacam-se “a aptidão metabólica e a homeostase energética no envelhecimento e os mecanismos celulares da senescência”.
O evento, dirigido a investigadores, médicos e estudantes interessados na área do Metabolismo, convida a comunidade científica a submeter resumos alusivos a propostas de comunicações orais ou em formato póster, até ao dia 11 de outubro de 2019. Os trabalhos aprovados serão posteriormente publicados na Revista Portuguesa de Diabetes.

The registrations to participation in the 11th Symposium on Metabolism of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) are now open. The event is scheduled for October 30th at the Centro de Investigação Médica (CIM) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, with the support of CINTESIS
At a time when average life expectancy is notably high, society is struggling with maintaining the health of older people. In this context, the organizing committee of the Symposium decided to dedicate this year’s edition to the theme “Aging & Metabolism”.
Elisa Keating, chair of the Scientific Committee of the Symposium and CINTESIS researcher, explains that the objectives of the 2019 edition are to “actively promote progress in containing age-related diseases and identifying therapeutic approaches with the ultimate goal of promoting healthy ageing by understanding and discussing the mechanisms of ageing, their molecular consequences and the intersection with metabolism, from cell to the organism as a whole”
Topics that will be addressed by a prominent panel of national and international researchers include “metabolic fitness and energy homeostasis in ageing and the cellular mechanisms of senescence”.
The event, addressed toward researchers, doctors and students interested in the area of Metabolism, invites the scientific community to submit abstracts for oral or poster communications proposals until October 11, 2019 . The approved works will be published later in the Portuguese Journal of Diabetes.
