Rui Nunes has just been awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Favaloro in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Full Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, integrated researcher of CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and Chair of the Portuguese Association of Bioethics has received the title as a recognition for his academic and scientific career in the field of Bioethics from one of the most important higher education institutions of that country.
The ceremony took place in September, organized by the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics, the International Network of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and the Red Ibero-Americana de Ecobioética para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Tecnología (Ibero-American Network of Eco-bioethics for Education, Science and Technology).
During the ceremony, Rui Nunes addressed the audience with a lecture entitled “A Rede Internacional da Cátedra UNESCO de Bioética – Os Desafios Atuais” (The International Network of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics – Current Challenges). He is, since 2015, the Chair of the Research Department of the so-called International Network and a prominent expert and public defender of social causes like the legalization of the advance health care directive, the celebration of a euthanasia referendum and, more recently, a proposal to UNESCO of a Universal Declaration of Gender Equality. He is also the author of several books in the field of Bioethics.
