HEALTH-UNORTE
HEALTH-UNORTE: Setting-up biobanks and regenerative medicine strategies to boost research in cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neurological, oncological, immunological and infectious diseases
Abstract
The three universities that constitute the UNorte (UMinho, UPorto and UTAD) got together to collaborate on a proposal to uphold health investigation by sharing methodologies that enhance incremental and disruptive research in the North region of the country.
The mission of this project is to mobilize the strengths of the three partner institutions, involving their affiliated hospitals, primary health care, clinical and fundamental academic research centers to build a sustainable fruitful regional collaborative system able to stimulate translational and clinical research to a higher level.
We aim to promote research that has impact thought high relevant scientific contributions, being able to promote health maintenance, and ameliorates clinical outcomes of disease, hopefully through instruments of sustainable economy. We propose the consolidation of an organized and shared Biobank – the North Human Biobank (NHB) – with the vision to establish a standardized and carefully phenotype repository of human biological specimens, digital imaging data and their associated clinical data.
