António Manuel Fonseca is an integrated member of the research group AgeingC at CINTESIS.

He earned his degree in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto in 1989. In 1994, he completed his master studies in Education Sciences (specialization in Personal and Social Training) at the University of Aveiro and in 2004 he earned his Doctorate Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto (ICBAS).

António Fonseca has taught at many universities and higher education institutions. He has held many positions of responsibility, such as Director of the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Portuguese Catholic University (2011-2014) and Director of the Center for the Study of Human Development – CEDH of that university (2013-1016).

As a researcher, he has been a member of the team of several projects, namely, “Social Care Questions for Over 65s: The Portuguese Version” and “REATIVA”, financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, and “Ageing in Place”, of which he was the coordinator and that was financed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He has published several books and book chapters in the field of Ageing.

Currently, he works as associate professor at the Portuguese Catholic University coordinating the Master in Social Applied Gerontology.
