In an interview with the Chanel S +, Rui Nunes, a researcher at CINTESIS and a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, said he believes the discussion about the ethical criteria for prioritizing intensive care units should be take place now to avoid hasty decisions.
“In a situation like the pandemic of the new coronavirus, with the worldwide repercussion it has had and with the examples we saw in Italy and Spain, it is essential that a country that wants to be at the forefront of civilization is prepared for situations like this,” he affirmed.
For the Bioethics specialist, these prioritization criteria “must be agreed upon, transparent, universal and perceived by the general population.”
