Carlos Sequeira is the Principal investigator of the NursID Research Group of CINTESIS, and Coordinating Professor at the Nursing School of Porto (ESEP).

He completed his PhD in Nursing Sciences in 2007, at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, in the field of the needs of the caregivers of patients with dementia. He has authored more than 60 articles published in relevant scientific journals on this and other topics. Much of that knowledge is actually summed up in 3 of the 16 works he has published: “Caring for Dependent Elders” (2007), “Caring for the Elderly with Physical and Mental Dependence”(2007) and “Clinical Communication and Helping Relationship” (2016).

In his latest book, Carlos Sequeira presents intervention proposals designed for caregivers of dependent patients and points out what is missing: “it is necessary to assess whether the caregivers have the capacity to be in charge of others, to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead face, and monitor their condition and that of the dependent person” he clarifies.

Another research line he has been focused on is the Mental Health of young people, a field in which he is currently developing a positive mental health program for this population group.
