1.2 million Euros. This was the total amount of funding granted to CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research, under the last Call for Research and Development (R&D) Projects Call of FCT – Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, the results of which were disseminated throughout the last months.
The funds are intended to finance nine scientific research projects in the Health area, on topics as varied as Kidney Disease, Otorhinolaryngology, Self-Management of Chronic Diseases, New Technological Tools to Support Diagnosis, Hospital Infections, Hypertension, Respiratory Diseases, or Health Care Management (more information on each of the projects will be available soon).
The financed projects will be developed at the CINTESIS hubs of the University of Porto and the University of Aveiro, some of them supported by partners such as INESC TEC, the Telecommunications Institute, and ISMAI – University Institute of Maia.
It is must be reminded that 4593 applications from all areas of knowledge were submitted to the FCT-2017 R&D Projects Call, of which only 1648 were funded (36%), although more than 3,300 were considered eligible.
According to the FCT, 103 institutions were able to have research projects approved under this call. In terms of projects approved by field of research, the area with the largest number of applications accepted was Engineering and Technology Sciences (26%), followed by Medical Sciences and Health (20%).
