CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research is back at the 16th U.Porto Exhibition, which takes place on April 12 to 15 at the ICBAS/FFUP facilities. The aim is to exhibit some of the examples of excellence research produced by this Unit, building bridges between scientists and the general public.
Along the four days, some of CINTESIS’ ongoing projects will be showcased covering fields of knowledge as diverse as Medicine, Biostatistics, Nursing, Psychology, Nutrition and Biomedical Engineering; and the Unit’s Mascot, the “Beast of the Feast” will be presented to the world to prove that there is no need to “fear” science.
On the first day, the CPR – Personal Trainer project will ask visitors to simulate and train resuscitation maneuvers that can make the difference between life and death. Right next to it, in the afternoon, the IoMum project will send everyone to fish for foods rich in iodine. But you cannot check the internet!
On Thursday morning and Friday afternoon, the Deus Ex Machina’s team will also be inviting people to try a prototype telemonitoring device for heart failure, a problem that is the main cause of hospitalization in people over 65 years of age.
On Friday morning, technology and health come together again, this time to calculate the likelihood of having breast cancer. NanoSTIMA will be around the clock to show you how to turn simple probability calculations into powerful clinical decision support systems and much more.
On Saturday, researchers and nurses will use technology in training the decision-making process and clinical reasoning with an immersive digital simulator, while the Metis platform responds to the public’s concerns about health.
Finally, on Sunday, the NursID research group will spread positive mental health throughout the campus and beyond, integrating the contributions of the entire U.Porto community.
