Abel Nicolau, a researcher at CINTESIS and coordinator of the Center for Clinical Simulation at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), was elected to join the board of SPSim – The Portuguese Society for Simulation Applied to Health Sciences. Abel Nicolau will serve as a member for the 2023/24 biennium.
“I am quite excited about this new challenge. Clinical simulation has grown substantially in recent years and has an increasingly important role in clinical education and training, so in these circumstances, being part of an organization such as SPSim brings added responsibility”, says the researcher.
For Abel Nicolau, it is “a matter of personal pride, but also institutional honor, to be part of this Society, given the visibility that it will certainly bring to the best that is done in Simulation at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto”.
As for the role I will play, “I believe I will be able to bring a new and renewed vision to the SPSim. In fact, the pillars of our candidacy were based on four key characteristics: young, comprehensive, multi-professional, and ambitious.
In this context, “I will certainly bring new points of view, as a biomedical engineer, simulation technician, and coordinator of a center. Thus, I hope to support the creation of new dynamics and initiatives, as well as highlight the importance of technical human resources in a simulation center”.
The Portuguese Society for Simulation Applied to Health Sciences (SPSim) was created in November 2011. It is currently the reference Society for clinical simulation in Portugal.
“In addition to bringing proximity to our partners and associates, we intend to collaborate in the dissemination, implementation and quality improvement of simulation as an educational resource and improvement in patient care,” continues Abel Nicolau.
Among the future events that will take place that have more visibility, we highlight the SESAM Annual Meeting 2023, in Lisbon, and the SPSim congress in 2024.
