João Bernardes, principal investigator at the Center for Research in Health Technology and Services (CINTESIS@RISE) and full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), received the Scientific Merit Award from the FSPOG – Federation of Portuguese Obstetrics and Gynecology Societies.
The award ceremony took place on November 16 at Culturgest in Lisbon, as part of the 23rd Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, sponsored by FSPOG.
“I was very pleased to receive this award, which I consider to be symbolic. For me, it represents the recognition that science is something that matters to Portuguese gynecologists-obstetricians and the sympathy of my colleagues for the work that the research group I lead has been doing,” he says.
According to the FSPOG, this award, given out every three years, is aimed at doctors in the Gynecology and Obstetrics specialty “who have stood out for their interventions, communications, a spirit of innovation, articles published in scientific journals and leadership skills”.
The jury for the prize consists of the president, vice-presidents, secretary-general, and treasurer of the FSPOG, and four members appointed by the affiliated societies, namely the Portuguese Society of Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Portuguese Society of Gynecology, the Portuguese Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Portuguese Society of Contraception and the Portuguese Association of Prenatal Diagnosis.
