The winning team of the Innovation day (i-day) 2020 edition will have the opportunity to develop, in partnership with CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research, the next phases of their proposal and receive technology and business development mentoring 2500 euros worth.
The event, promoted by the EIT Health Hub U.Porto, in partnership with the Students Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (AEFMUP), took place in October at the U.Porto. The objective is to foster entrepreneurship in the health field by placing students from multidisciplinary areas to create innovative solutions to health problems in Europe.
Composed by Gabriela Correia, Benedita Viana and Francisco Pêgo, medical students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), the team proposed “the creation of an application that helps people with reduced mobility to find support institutions, maps locals with ease of access and fosters an active life through fora and mentoring programs”.
There was also an honorable mention for Noémi Nogueira, Diogo Santos, and Miguel Pereira for the development of an application that allows collecting data on the emotional state of 2nd and 3rd cycle students, in order to prevent situations of bullying < / em> and to encourage the demystification of mental health among adolescents.
The event was part of the What Else initiative and the participants developed solutions for several problems they identified, such as childhood obesity, burnout of health professionals, mental health, and access to people with reduced mobility.
In addition to the prize, the students were also trained in design thinking and how to make a pitch. The development of soft skills was also pointed out as one of the highlights of the event, especially in the training of teamwork and time management.
