Guilherme Macedo is a researcher of the iGo research group at CINTESIS.
He graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and holds a Doctoral Degree in Gastroenterology from the same institution. During his training, he worked at the Beaujon Hospital (1991) and at the Klinik Universitat Freiburg (1993) and eventually specialised in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
During his clinical career, Guilherme Macedo has held several positions of leadership and direction in different public and private healthcare units.
He has been a member of the ACG since 1999 and is also a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the European Board of Gastroenterology. He presided the Portuguese Society of Endoscopy, as well as the Portuguese Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
He is a prolific author, having published more than 300 scientific publications and participated in pioneering projects in the field of Hepatology and Endoscopy.
In 2015, he was awarded with the International Leadership Award by the American College of Gastroenterology. Currently, he is the Director of the Gastroenterology Service of the Hospital of São João and of Clipóvoa, and professor at FMUP.
