Hortense Cotrim is an integrated researcher of the NursID group, Thematic Line 1 – Preventive Medicine & Societal Challenges of CINTESIS.
She graduated in General Nursing from the S. Vicente de Paulo Higher School of Nursing, in 1983. Later, in 1994, she specialized in Medical-Surgical Nursing, and earned her Master Degree in Nursing Sciences from the Catholic University of Portugal, in 1998, and her Doctoral Degree from the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), in 2008. She also completed a post-graduation in Health Services Management at the Superior Institute of Business and Labour Sciences (ISCTE), in 2001, a Master in Bioethics at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, in 2011, and a Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine at ICBAS, in 2017.
During her nursing career, she was Chief of the ICU of the Hospital of Santa Marta and Chief-nurse at the Hospital Centre of Setubal. In 2001, she accepted the invitation to create the Graduate Course in Nursing at the Egas Moniz School of Health, where she worked as the coordinator of the course and Associate Professor. In 2017, she accepted an offer from the University of Algarve to work as an Assistant Professor at the School of Health of that university. As a researcher she has focused mainly on the field of colorectal cancer.
