João Almeida Lopes Fonseca is an integrated researcher of the research group PaCeIT of CINTESIS..

He is Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Information and Health Decision Sciences and Associated Professor with Agregação (tenure) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). He is responsible for the Allergy Unit of the Institute CUF Porto. He is also the Coordinator of two of the Doctoral Programmes of FMUP.

João Fonseca founded MEDIDA, a spin-off of CINTESIS/University of Porto, and co-directed the Programme Harvard Medical School Portugal. He has co-authored more than 250 publications and has been involved in more than 25 research projects. In eigth of those projects he was the principal investigator, namely, “Control and Burden of Asthma and Rhinitis”, “Chronic diseases of the airways – contents and tools for productive interactions between empowered patients and proactive professionals” (financed by the Portuguese Foundation for science and Technology – FCT), the “CARAT project – Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Questionnaire” (www.caratnetwork.org), mINSPIRER and AIRDOC.
