João Vasco Santos is a doctoral integrated researcher of the group 2D4H – Secondary Data for Healthcare Research at CINTESIS.
He completed his Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) in 2016 and his PhD in Clinical Research and Health Services, also at FMUP, in 2022, with the thesis “Effectiveness of health systems in the European Union”. He also completed his Master’s in Public Health at the National School of Public Health at the NOVA University of Lisbon in 2021. He won two awards at the Young European Scientist (YES) Meeting in 2015 and 2016.
He is an Assistant Professor at FMUP and a Specialist in Public Health at ACES Grande Porto V – Porto Ocidental/Administração Regional de Saúde do Norte (ARS Norte), as well as president of the Public Health Economics section of EUPHA – European Public Health Association. He is also the editor of the journal Archives of Public Health. He was previously a trainee at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and at the European Commission. He is currently leading the Work Package on Health Economics of the BEST-COST project (project funded by Horizon Europe).
