COVID-19 is more severe in people who have an imbalance of the intestinal microbiota. The conclusion is from a Portuguese study coordinated by the researcher and professor Conceição Calhau, from CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and the NOVA Medical School.

This study, funded by Biocodex and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), is the first conducted in Europe on the impact of gut microbiota on the severity of COVID-19.
