A study by CINTESIS – Center for Health Technology and Services Research and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) shows that diabetic patients who are lonely and with symptoms of depression show poor adherence to treatments.
This poor adherence to the therapy prescribed by the doctor, says Paulo Santos, translates, in practice, into significantly higher blood glucose values and worse control of diabetes.
