A team led by Matilde Monteiro-Soares, a researcher at CINTESIS, analyzed data of patients followed up in three health units in northern Portugal. The conclusion was that by the end of a year, 7% of the individuals with type 2 diabetes developed a diabetic foot ulcer. The work aimed at validating the medical classification tools used to prevent complications associated to the diabetic foot. According to the researchers, the different existing classifications “are robust and comparable,” the team concluded, “for now, they are all useful.”
