An Open Session entitled “Prostate Cancer and Sexual Health: Science at the Service of Health and Well-Being“, integrated in the SexHealth & ProstateCancer Project, which counts on the partnership of CINTESIS and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, is scheduled for June 12, at 14h00.

The session will take place in the Auditorium 1 of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP), project leader, and, as the name implies, is open to all interested parties, including health professionals, patients, and the community in general.

The program includes three panels with the following themes: “Prostate cancer and sexually transmitted infections”, “Neuropsychophysiological predictors of mental and sexual health in prostate cancer” and “Promotion of sexual and emotional health of prostate cancer survivors”.

In this last panel, the guest speaker will be Lori Brotto, psychologist and professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her research focuses mainly on the psychophysiological aspects of sexual dysfunctions.

The event, which will be on-site, will end with a “Dialogued Session”, with “room for questions and contributions from the audience”, as well as for “final reflections”.

Participation is free of charge, but requires prior registration by June 9, using this form. The program is available here.

Funded by Norte 2020 (Portugal 2020) with approximately 580 thousand euros, the SexHealth & ProstateCancer Project was developed with the goal of “investigating biomedical and psychological risk factors involved in the etiology and development of prostate cancer, as well as uncovering protective factors”, through a multidisciplinary approach that combines different scientific areas and methodologies.

The proposal aims to have “a significant impact on the personalization of health and care, particularly in the fields of oncology, infectious diseases/sexually transmitted infections, mental health, and sexual health.”

At CINTESIS/FMUP, the researchers Acácio Rodrigues (principal investigator), Cidália Pina Vaz, Carmen Lisboa, Elizabete Ricardo, and Alberto Freitas, among others, are also involved. At FPCEUP, Pedro Nobre, director of this Faculty, is the principal investigator (PI) of the project, which has Joana Carvalho and Ana Quinta Gomes as co-PIs.
